Wilbur is thin and half starved. He feels Charlie's arms around him protecting him against the kicks and blows of the other boys. Charlie is big and powerful and calm. He is above all loving. He protects Wilbur. Night after night. Wilbur feels the rush of love and adoration as an uncontrollable force. He loves Charlie so, so much. He stays close to Charlie.
This is the most beautiful thing to happen to Wilbur up until the wonderful, yet frightening and confusing day when Fern takes him away from the pen. This day is very special - a chapter.
